We start our series on getting to know more about the instructors of PoleFit Nation.
Today we are learning more about Melissa, who created Fusion Fit. Here's her Q & A:
Why did you start pole dancing:
"I started pole dancing for fitness because I had always wanted to try it and finally got the guts to go for it. I like fun, creative ways to work out, as opposed to just pumping iron at the gym. I started belly dancing a few years ago and loved the sense of community at an independent studio for women, as well as the increased confidence I gained. Pole was just the next logical step!"
What is a typical day in your life:
"I wake up at 5:30am and head to the office for 7:15am. I get home by 4, take my hair clients until around 9 or 10, head to bed and do it all over again. My favourite days are Tuesday and Thursday, when I teach at PFN! In my rare time off, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and absolutely adore my two young nephews. Some of my favourite outdoor activities include yoga in the park, napping under a tree, and walking or biking on the waterfront. Every so often, I hideaway for a Netflix marathon."
What is your preferred song to dance.work out to :
"I have such an eclectic taste in music. For general work outs, I love classic rock. For cardio/dance, anything reggaeton or with a latin beat. For chair, I like the slow and sexy jams (think Pony by Genuwine). One of my all-time favourite songs is Fat Bottomed Girls by Queen, for obvious reasons :)"
Why do you love teaching?
"I enjoy teaching because it is an opportunity for me to share what I love with others. I learned ways to increase my confidence and self-esteem, while building strength and cardio endurance, and enjoy guiding others in their own journey. Even when I am feeling emotionally down, physically low, or mentally taxed, the thought of coming to the studio re-energizes and revitalizes me. It cures all that ails me :)"
I can't live without...
"I can't live without music, mascara, my family & friends, and a really good mango in the summertime. And PFN, of course ;)"
